A World of Difference
In 2004 our company
decided to put a brand on all our efforts to be good corporate
citizens and A World of Difference was born. We are firm believers
in giving back to our community in any way we can. In today's world
there are so many worthy causes that you cannot help everyone but
it is important to help someone. Here are the partners that we have
chosen to help us make the World a better place:
Catholic
Charities
Catholic Charities,
Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. was established in 1941 as the
Catholic Welfare Board, the social service agency of the San Ant
Lynd Company working with CCAOSA has provided affordable housing
for UNHCR refugees coming into the U.S. to essentially restart
their lives. Application fees and deposits were waived, and rents
were at times adjusted to meet the families' needs at both the
properties of the Lynd Company and properties that we managed such
as American Opportunity for Housing. In addition to this the Lynd
Company donated an average of 5 units a year to struggling families
and office space for our program, to offer a more hands on
assistance to the refugees. This partnership has been ongoing for
the past ten years. The Lynd Company has also worked closely with
the Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio for over 15
years. A David Lynd was presented with an award “For Your
Commitment to Welcoming The Stranger Among Us” for the
Refugee Resettlement Program.

Brighton
The Lynd Company has
been a major sponsor and supporter of Brighton, The Center for
Inclusive Communities for over five years. Brighton provides early
childhood intervention and child development services for children
with disabilities and development throughout the San Antonio
Community. As part of their services, Brighton offers parenting
classes, advocacy and housing assistance to these children's
families to ensure that these children are given every opportunity
to live in a healthy safe environment.
The Lynd Company has
been a major sponsor in this effort by providing housing assistance
to low-income families who cannot afford to pay basic rent. They
sponsor a program called Fundamental Foundations, which provides
low-income families in the Brighton program with rental assistance.
The families receive discounts from 50%-90% off the normal rent for
a period of 6-12 months. This assistance has helped over 25
families during the past two years. An average of 10 families
participate in this project at any given time. Due to the rental
assistance, it helps these families stabilize their finances during
tough times. As a result, recently a single mother of a special
needs child has just purchased her first home. This is due to the
generous support of the Lynd Company.

Additionally, for the
past 5 years, the Lynd Company supports Brighton's other child
development programs as a major sponsor for the annual event,
“The Taste of the Northside,” an official fiesta event
(link) which draws over 3,000 participants each year during Fiesta.
As a result of this sponsorship, the organization is able to raise
over $70,000 each year for its programs.
Hurricane
Katrina
The Lynd Company felt
that it was vital that they assist the victims of Hurricane
Katrina, which hit the Gulf Coast on the 29th of August 2005. They
have provided the evacuees of the hurricane discounts on
apartments, free rent for 2 months, jobs, food and basic
necessities for them to settle into a new home in the San Antonio
and Houston area. The Lynd Company has also asked residents
throughout its 22,000-unit portfolio in nine states to donate food,
water and other basics items. In San Antonio, the Lynd Company has
asked the public to donate items such as canned goods, water,
toothpaste, toothbrushes, batteries, pillows and
blankets.
Cancer
Research and Therapy Center
The CTRC is a
not-for-profit, multidisciplinary, outpatient clinic and research
center. The CTRC and The University of Texas Health Science Center
at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) have formed a research consortium called
the San Antonio Cancer Institute (SACI). This consortium is a
National Cancer Institute (NCI)- designated Clinical Cancer Center.
Through this affiliation, the CTRC's Institute for Drug Development
(IDD) provides Phase I clinical trials to patients throughout the
world.
The Lynd Company is
proud to support CRTC and has underwritten numerous book and author
luncheons.
